Special Event - First Saturdays Celebration at The Seed House Taste of Tamaqua with special guest host Mo Devlin with an intimate acoustic set by And You Brutus
Join us for our next first Saturday Celebration at the Seed House as we welcome Internationally recognized, Morrell Devlin. Mo will show case his "frozen" art photography at the Seed House for our First Saturday Celebration.
A fan of all photography, Morrell continues to experiment and push his creative core. His latest direction his been to produce photos of frozen flowers. “I’ve been doing this for almost three years now. It’s become a real obsession.”
“It’s a twostep process. The first step is actually creating the ice. All of the photos are done by freezing or partially freezing flowers in blocks of ice. It sounds simple, but the actual science behind the freezing is both interesting and beautiful in its simplicity. Most importantly, it gives the ice a unique and beautiful background for the flower inside.”
“Over the past three years I have taken over two thousand published photos of my Frozen Flowers. Through trial and error…and a lot of ice and flowers…I’ve been able to develop my freezing method to get a variety of effects. But as in most things with nature and science, beauty often comes unexpectedly.
About his work he says,” I always hope that my art moves the viewer on the inside. I hope that each and every one sees something different…feels something different. And most importantly I hope looking at them gives them as much joy as it does me when I photograph them.”
Morrell is a resident of Dallas, PA, but most of his family lives in or around Tamaqua. His biggest fan, his mother Mary Shock, resides in Tuscarora. “all of the skill and creative spirit aside, it was my mom who convinced me to follow my heart and be happy. I live by those thoughts and words every day knowing it makes her proud.”
Devlin’s other passion is keeping and photographing tropical fish. He is known internationally for aquatic photography which is published regularly in several hobby magazines both in the USA and throughout the world and also National Geographic. His photos are also seen throughout the internet under the name “Aquamojo” and on his website www.aquamojo.com
